This independence day will always be remembered for long time, for the fact that three Pakistani movies have released on local cinemas and they are giving extremely tough fight to the lone Bollywood release Brothers.  But first lets talk about the most awaited movie of them all, directed by none other than Jami and produced by Nadeem Mandvi wala in association with Geo Films, MOOR !

The hype of the film was sooper considering the fact that it has no Shaan Shahid or Humayun Saeed in it still the film has been opened to decent numbers nationwide and there are certain reasons for that. Powerful Script, stunning cinematography, impeccable music by strings and offcourse Jami’s almost flawless direction

With Moor Jami have tried to touch the corruption and sorry state of railway infrastructure in Balochistan in a very simple yet artistic and realistic manner. It tells you the story of Wahid (Hameed Sheikh) and Palwasha (Samia Mumtaz) and their problems both financial and personal, Wahid must choose between facilitating a web of corruption involving his own elder brother that might provide him a more comfortable life but which threatens to destroy his beloved railways and morals on the one hand.  ‘Moor’ is a story about the meaning of loyalty – to one’s land, one’s family and one’s principles. Moor might not register exceptional numbers at local boxoffice due to the seriousness of the subject and the way it has been handled by Jami but at the same time one cannot deny the fact that Moor is truly the best of Pakistani cinema so far after it’s re-birth few years back and probably the only film which could become serious contender for best Foreign language film at Oscar’s.

Hameed Sheikh as wahid have done a great job in fact he was at ease when it comes to conveying his emotions through eyes and facial expression’s without saying much….. Omar Baloch you are one fine actor. Samiya Mumtaz as Palwasha was good, she appears mostly in flashback’s though. Shaz Khan as Ehsaan was also decent, he did full justice with some fine dialogues and dramatic expressions in the climax and that too without being loud. Abdul qadir as baggu baba was natural, his witty one liners were well received by the crowd. Eshita, Soniya Hussain, Nayyer Ejaz….. all have done well with their roles along with Ayaz Sammo who was energetic and natural but yes he need to work a little on dialogue delivery and clarity of words.

Screenplay by Jami could have been little better in the beginning but once the character building was done Jami was at its very best in the 2nd half , camera work by Farhan Hafeez was World class and can easily be compared with any Hollywood film, editing, sound design, color grading and background score was exceptional to say the least. Songs were cleverly placed in the narrative and mostly in the background and they sounds great….my personal favorite was Jogiya and Talabgaar. One must give a big pat on the back of  Nadeem Manvi wala and Jami for believing in quality and content based cinema rather than following the footprints of mainstream Bollywood filmmaker’s who emphasize more on cheap thrills and forceful half naked item number’s.

Watch out for :

  1. Breathtaking Visual’s of Balochistan, specially Muslim bagh.
  2. Jami’s direction and String’s brilliant background score.
  3. Exceptional performance of all the actor’s specially Hameed Sheikh

Verdict :

You would be extremely unlucky to miss this worldclass cinematic experience,  just go for it.
